  1. Types Of URIs
  2. Difference between URI and URL

URI’s full form is Uniform Resource Identifier. It is a general term for all names and addresses that show objects on the World Wide Web (www). It is usually a sequence of characters that identifies the name and location of a logical resource or a file or resource in a similar format.

Types Of URIs

As mentioned in the above figure, there are two types of URI:

  1. URLURL (Uniform Resource Locator) specifies a location on the computer network and technique for retrieving it.
  2. URNURN (Uniform Resource Name) is an internet resource that specifies URN scheme.

Difference between URI and URL

Here are the main differences between URI and URL:

URIURL
URI stands for Uniform Resource Identifier.URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator.
A URI is a superset of URL that identifies a resource either by URL or URN (Uniform Resource Name) or both.URL is a subset of URI that specifies where a resource is exists and the mechanism for retrieving it.
The main aim of URI is to find a resource and differentiate it from other resources using either name or location. The main aim is to get the location or address of a resource
Used in HTML, XML and other files XSLT (Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations) and more.URL is used to locate only web pages
In URI, the scheme may be anything like a protocol, specification, name, etc.The scheme must be a protocol like HTTP, FTP, HTTPS, etc.
There is no protocol information given in URI.Protocol information is given in the URL.
Example of URI:
urn:isbn:0-486-27557-4
Example of URL: https://google.com
It contains components like scheme, authority, path, query, fragment component, etc.It contains components such as protocol, domain, path, hash, query string, etc.
Not all URIs are URLs since a URI can be a name instead of a locator. All URLs can be URIs
2.

URL Full Form

Answer»

The full form of URL is “Uniform Resource Locator“. A URL is the address of a resource, which can be a specific webpage or a file on the Internet. When a URL is used with http, it is known as a web address. URL is a specific character string used to access data from the World Wide Web (WWW). Each valid URL points to a unique resource. Such resources can be an HTML page, a CSS document, an image, etc. It was created in 1994 by Tim Berners-Lee. It is a type of URI (Uniform Resource Identifier).

Each URL contains the following information:

  • Protocols (http or https).
  • A semicolon (:), two slashes(//).
  • A host, usually called a domain name.
  • A colon followed by a port number..
  • Absolute path to the resource.

A URL can be entered by typing it into the address bar of your web browser. If the URL does not contain a valid server, a browser may display a ” Server not found” error and if the path in the URL is incorrect, the browser may display a “404 error”. A URL does not contain spaces and uses forward slashes to represent different directories. So, dashes and underscores are used to separate web address words.

Example of URL

Example 1: https://fullform.blog/internet/www-full-form/

  • The protocol is https. Facebook uses HTTPS (the secure version of HTTP) because you have to be logged-in to use it, and because they store and use a lot of your personal data and information.
  • The TLD is .com, indicating that Facebook is probably a commercial site (it is).
  • The domain name is fullform.blog.
  • They are using the www subdomain. Probably for usability reasons (some people still expect all domains names to begin with www, even though it isn’t necessary).
  • The path is internet/www-full-form, which identifies a specific resource on their server.

Example 2: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet#Terminology

  • The protocol is https.
  • The TLD is .org, indicating that the domain is probably run by a non-profit organization. (That is not always true, but in this case it is.)
  • The domain name is wikipedia.org.
  • The subdomain is en. Wikipedia uses language-code subdomains. This URL is for an English-language article.
  • The path is /wiki/Internet. This identifies the specific resource (the wiki article on the Internet) on Wikipedia’s server.
  • This URL has a named anchor#Terminology. This indicates that the URL is not just for a specific document, but for a specific place within that document. IF you followed this link, the page would be scrolled down to the “Terminology” section, rather than the top of the page.

What is the full form of SMS?

Answer»

SMS: Short Message Service

The full form of SMS is “Short Message Service“. The short message service (SMS) is a communication protocol that allows you to exchange text messages between mobile devices. It uses standardized communication protocols to allow mobile devices to exchange short text messages. You can send SMS through cell phones, smartphones, computer systems with Web, portable devices, etc. All telecommunications companies such as Jio, Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL, etc. Offer the possibility of sending SMS. An intermediary service can facilitate the sending of text to speech to landlines. SMS was the most used data application at the end of 2010, with an estimated 3.5 billion active users, or approximately 80% of all mobile subscribers.

It was originally designed as part of GSM, but now it is also available on CDMA phones. The maximum length of an individual message varies up to 160 alphanumeric 7-bit characters. (In the case of 5-bit mode, it supports 224 characters). An SMS message is temporarily stored in the SMS center, if the recipient’s cell phone is not available. In most cell phones it is possible to specify a validity period after which the SMS message will be removed from the SMS center. Once deleted, the SMS message will no longer be available to send to the recipient’s cell phone (even if it is online). The first SMS message was sent via Vodafone’s GSM network in the United Kingdom on December 3, 1992.

What is the full form of OTP?

Answer»

OTP: One Time Password

The full form of OTP is “One Time Password“. It is an automatically generated numeric or alphanumeric string of characters that authenticates the user for a single transaction or login session. It is a password that is valid for only one login session or transaction, on a computer system or other digital device. OTPs avoid a number of shortcomings that are associated with traditional (static) password-based authentication

One Time Passwords are an easy and reliable form of Two Factor Authentication and are used to add a second layer of authentication. The risk of fraud is drastically reduced if the user doesn’t only have to fill in his user name and password. one-time password (OTP) messages are unique to every single user and every single login on any digital device.

How OTPs are generated

OTP security tokens are microprocessor-based smart cards or pocket-size key fobs that produce a numeric or alphanumeric code to authenticate access to the system or transaction. This secret code changes every 30 or 60 seconds, depending on how the token is configured. Mobile device apps, such as Google Authenticator, rely on the token device and PIN to generate the one-time password for two-step verification.

OTP security tokens can be implemented using hardware, software or on-demand. Unlike traditional passwords that remain static or expire every 30 to 60 days, the one-time password is used for one transaction or login session. This prevents some forms of identity theft by making sure that a captured user name/password pair cannot be used a second time.

Example of OTP:

Assume you are using Gmail and google ask you to enable two-step verification if you enable two-step verification then you will receive a OTP every time whenever you log in to your Gmail account and this increases your security.

  5. IP: International Paper Company
  6. Other Full Forms of IP

IP: Internet Protocol

The Internet Protocol (IP) is a protocol, or set of rules, for routing and addressing packets of data so that they can travel across networks and arrive at the correct destination. Data traversing the Internet is divided into little chunks called packets. IP information is attached to each packet, and this information helps routers to send packets to the right place. Every device or domain that connects to the Internet is assigned at least one IP address, and as packets are directed to the IP address attached to them, data arrives where it is needed.

The first major version of IP is Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) it is the dominant protocol of the Internet. Its successor is Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), which has been in increasing deployment on the public Internet since 2006. The most widely used version of IP today is Internet Protocol Version 4. However, IPv6 is also beginning to be supported. IPv6 provides for much longer addresses and therefore for the possibility of many more Internet users. IPv6 includes the capabilities of IPv4 and any server that can support IPv6 packets can also support IPv4 packets.

Types of Internet Protocol

When most people talk about “the Internet” what they are really referring to is the World Wide Web (WWW). The Internet is actually composed of many different components.

  • TCP(Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol):- It is a transport layer protocol that provides a reliable stream delivery and virtual connection service to applications through the use of sequenced acknowledgement.
  • SMTP(Simple Mail Transfer Protocol):- This protocol is dedicated to sending e-mail messages originated on a local host over a TCP connection to a remote server.
  • PPP(Point to Point Protocol):- It is a communication protocol that is used to create a direct connection between two communicating devices.
  • FTP(File Transfer Protocol):- It enables file sharing between hosts, both local and remote, and runs on top of TCP. For file transfer, FTP creates two TCP connections: control and data connection.
  • SFTP(Secure File Transfer Protocol):- It is a secure file transfer protocol. It runs over the SSH protocol. It supports the full security and authentication functionality of SSH.
  • HTTP(HyperText Transfer Protocol):- It is the protocol used by web server to allow web pages to be shown in a web browser. If you look up into the address bar of your web browser, it has the prefix “http://” in front of the address.
  • HTTPS(HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure):- It is an extension of the HTTP. It is used for secure communication over a computer network with the SSL/TLS protocol for encryption and authentication.
  • TELNET(Terminal Network):- You can connect to and use a remote computer program by using the telnet protocol.
  • Gopher:- It is a menu-based program that enables you to browse for information without knowing where the material is located.
  • POP3(Post Office Protocol 3):- This protocol helps us to retrieve and manage emails from the mailbox on the receiver mail server to the receiver’s computer.

IP: Intellectual property

IP stands for Intellectual property. IP is a category of property that includes intangible creations of the human intellect. There are many types of intellectual property, and some countries recognize more than others. The most well-known types are copyrights, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. Intellectual property is divided into two categories: Industrial Property includes patents for inventions, trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications. Copyright covers literary works (such as novels, poems and plays), films, music, artistic works (e.g., drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures) and architectural design. Rights related to copyright include those of performing artists in their performances, producers of phonograms in their recordings, and broadcasters in their radio and television programs.

The main purpose of intellectual property (IP) law is to encourage the creation of a wide variety of intellectual goods. Early precursors to some types of intellectual property existed in societies such as Ancient Rome, but the modern concept of intellectual property developed in England in the 17th and 18th centuries. The term “intellectual property” began to be used in the 19th century, though it was not until the late 20th century that intellectual property became commonplace in the majority of the world’s legal systems.

IP: Indian Pharmacopoeia

In Pharmaceuticals Industry, IP stands for “Indian Pharmacopoeia“. It is an official document meant for overall quality control and assurance of pharmaceutical products marketed in India by way of contributing on their safety, efficiency and affordability. It is like the bible of medical science in India, it contains a collection of authoritative procedures of analysis and specifications for Drugs. Drugs manufactured in India have to be labelled with the mandatory non-proprietary drug name with the suffix “I.P.”. Eighth Edition of Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP-2018) is the current Indian Pharmacopoeia (I.P.), it was released by Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.

IP: Inpatient

In Medical field IP stands for Inpatient. Inpatient care refers a person who goes into hospital to receive medical care, and whose condition requires admission to a hospital. The main two ways that you could become an inpatient is through a hospital’s ER (emergency room), or through a pre-booked surgery or treatment (like if you need a knee replacement).

You don’t have to stay overnight in hospital to be classified as an inpatient, so as long as you’ve been admitted by a doctor and received treatment, such as surgery or an endoscopy, even if you’re only in for the day – you’ll still be an inpatient. It’s important to remember that even if you’re visiting your doctor or specialist at a hospital, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re classified as an inpatient. Some medical professionals may have a room they work from within a hospital.

Patients enter inpatient care mainly from previous ambulatory care such as referral from a family doctor, or through emergency medicine departments. The patient formally becomes an “inpatient” at the writing of an admission note. Likewise, it is formally ended by writing a discharge note.

IP: International Paper Company

The International Paper Company (NYSE: IP) is an American pulp and paper company, the largest such company in the world. It has approximately 56,000 employees, and is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. The company was incorporated January 31, 1898, upon the merger of 17 pulp and paper mills in the northeastern United States. The company’s logo was designed by American graphic designers Lester Beall and Richard Rogers in 1960. The logo features the letters “I” and “P” which form a stylized arrow.

What is the full form of HTTP?

Answer»

HTTP: Hypertext Transfer Protocol

The full form of HTTP is Hypertext Transfer protocol. HTTP is an application protocol used for data communication. It is the basis for data communication in the WWW. It provides a standard for web browsers that allows users to exchange information over the Internet. HTTP is used to access any file or page through most websites. It makes use of the port no. 443 for data communication.

How does HTTP work?

When you enter a URL in your web browser to access a particular file or page, the protocol receives information from the server and requests the client for the web page. For this, you need to write http or https before the address of the page. For example: If you want to access any website like fullform.blog then you write: https://fullform.blog. HTTP clients typically use Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connections to exchange communications with the server.

What is the full form of DSL?

Answer»

DSL: Digital Subscriber Line

The full form of DSL is Digital Subscriber Line. It is a means of communication that provides access to the Internet by transmitting digital data over common copper telephone lines without interfering with voice service. The Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) can transmit voice and data signals simultaneously, which means you can use the phone while maintaining your Internet connection. To ensure that the connection is not interrupted by high frequencies, DSL filters or splitters are used. It offers the best cost, connectivity and services in relation to other types of Internet access, such as FTTH.

There are two variations of DSL- Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) and symmetric digital subscriber line (SDSL). ADSL is the most commonly installed DSL technology, for Internet access. In ADSL, the data transfer rate in the upstream direction (the direction to the service provider) is slower. In SDSL services, the downstream and upstream data rates are the same. A DSL connection can be implemented using the existing cable. This implementation, even including equipment, is much cheaper than installing a new high bandwidth fiber optic cable on the same route and distance. This is true for both ADSL and SDSL variations.

What is the full form of CC and BCC?

Answer»

CC: Carbon Copy

In the context of email, the full form of CC is Carbon Copy. The term is very popular on the Internet among email users. The CC field is used to send a message to more than one recipient. Some people place their email IDs in the CC field with the recipients’ name.

If you want to send an email to your friend about a particular subject and you want the rest of the 4 friends to know what email you are sending, then you can enter the email address of the other 4 friends in the CC field. By doing CC, all five friends will know to whom you are emailed and their email IDs will also be visible to each other.

Carbon Copy (CC) is used a lot in companies because many people work together on many jobs in the company and the email should be received by everyone together and they also need to know to whom the email was sent. So CC is very important for them.

The term CC comes from a carbon copy in which a carbon copy is made by placing a carbon paper between two sheets and writing on the upper sheet. When you write something on the top sheet, this copy leaves a duplicate mark because it is on another sheet. You can make more carbon copies by placing more carbon paper and paper sheets between the top and bottom papers.

BCC: Blind Carbon Copy

BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy. The acronym BCC has also been used in email. If you do not want the address of the email list to be known to everyone, then instead of using the CC field, their email address will have to be inserted in the Blind Carbon Copy (BCC) field.

If you send an email to your five friends and you don’t want those whom you have sent the email to know that this email has gone to someone else then you can use BCC to hide the list. By putting an email ID in the BCC field, no one will know to whom the email has been copied. In CC the reply of email is also detected but in BCC the reply is hidden.
