William Carey University (also known as Carey, William Carey, or WCU) is a private Christian liberal arts college in Mississippi, affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Mississippi Baptist Convention. The main campus is in Hattiesburg, and a second campus is in the Tradition community near Gulfport and Biloxi.

William Carey University was founded by W. I. Thames in 1892 as Pearl River Boarding School in Poplarville, Mississippi. A disastrous fire destroyed the school in 1905, and in 1906, with the backing of a group of New Orleans businessmen, Thames reopened the school in Hattiesburg as South Mississippi College. Another fire destroyed the young institution, forcing it to close. In 1911, W. S. F. Tatum acquired the property and offered it as a gift to the Baptists, and the school reopened as Mississippi Woman's College. In 1953, the Mississippi Baptist Convention voted to make the college coeducational, which necessitated a new name. In 1954, the board of trustees selected the name William Carey College in honor of William Carey, the 18th-century English cordwainer-linguist whose decades of missionary activity in India earned him international recognition as the "Father of Modern Missions." The gained official university status in 2006.

The university offers baccalaureate degrees in arts and letters, education, natural and behavioral sciences, business, religion, music, and nursing. It also offers M.B.A, M.Ed., M.S. in psychology, M.S. in Health Information Systems, and M.S.N. degrees, as well as a specialist degree in elementary education and a Ph.D. in education administration. William Carey opened the College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009 and welcomed its first class of 110 students in 2010. In 2012, Carey added a Ph.D. program in nursing. The academic year comprises three trimesters of eleven weeks each. Two summer sessions, a January Term, and a May Term are also offered.

The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK) was founded in London in 1826, mainly at the instigation of Whig MP Henry Brougham, with the object of publishing information to people who were unable to obtain formal teaching or who preferred self-education. It was a largely Whig organisation, and published inexpensive texts intended to adapt scientific and similarly high-minded material for the rapidly-expanding reading public over twenty years until it was disbanded in 1846.

The San Diego Underwater Photographic Society (SDUPS) is one of the earliest organizations ever to be dedicated to the promotion and advancement of the art and techniques of underwater photography and videography with nearly 50 years of history to its credit. SDUPS was first established on September 28, 1961 by underwater photographic pioneers Ron Church and Chuck Nicklin at San Diego’s Diving Locker dive shop formerly on Cass Street in Pacific Beach.

In 2005, SDUPS won first place in the Nature's Best Magazine annual competition, one of the world's most respected photo competitions. The Societies winning photos were then displayed at the Smithsonian Museum.

SDUPS membership covers all levels of underwater photography from beginning U/W photographers to amateurs, semi-professional and full-time professional underwater photographers, using a wide range of equipment and techniques. These include such varied techniques as film photography, Digital photography, High-definition video and even the 3-D underwater Imax technology of SDUPS members Howard and Michelle Hall (Under the Sea 3D, Coral Reef Adventure)

The Society is still active today with monthly meetings held every 4th Thursday of the month at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography's Sumner Auditorium at 8602 La Jolla Shores Drive, La Jolla 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

Annually in May SDUPS presents its film festival featuring underwater photographs and video from all over the world by both professional and amateur photographers.

The Social and Behavioral Sciences Team (SBST) was established in the US by Executive Order #13707 on September 15, 2015.

The Social and Behavioral Sciences Team was a group of experts in applied behavioral science that translated findings and methods from the social and behavioral sciences into improvements in federal policies and programs for the benefit of the American people. The SBST was chaired by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and represented a dozen member agencies across the Federal Government, as well as offices within the Executive Office of the President. SBST also received critical support from the General Services Administration. The Executive Order charged SBST with providing advice and policy guidance to Federal agencies in support of the order.

The team was chaired by Maya Shankar Ph.D. "The goal is to help people who want to take a given step but may face some barriers," commented Maya.

The SBST aimed to apply insights from social and behavioral science to policy It has helped connect veterans with employment and educational counseling benefits and helped struggling student borrowers understand their loan repayment options.

The team is no longer active as of January 21, 2017, with employees having left to other agencies or organizations. During the Trump administration, the team's work was continued by the General Services Administration's Office of Evaluation Sciences.
