Central Railroad of Indianapolis (reporting mark CERA) is a Class III short-line railroad that operates approximately 39 miles (63 km) miles of rail line in north central Indiana.

One leg of the railroad begins near Marion at the unincorporated town of Michaelsville, passes west-southwest through Herbst, Swayzee and Sims, then through the Howard County communities of Sycamore, Greentown, and finally Kokomo, where it interchanges with U.S. Rail Corporation's Winamac Southern Rail System (see: https://web.archive.org/web/20170820211926/http://www.usrailcorp.com/divisions.php ).

Central Railroad of Indianapolis is a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming. G&W had purchased the RailAmerica empire in 2012. RailAmerica had itself bought CERA and then parent Railtex in 2000.CERA was formed in 1989 when Norfolk Southern leased several lines, including the now mostly-abandoned Tipton-Peru line and the Marion to Frankfort former "Cloverleaf" line to the then-new company through NS's "Thoroughbred Shortline program. For a time, Norfolk Southern interchanged with CERA via its Frankfort to Kokomo line. The latter route was embargoed after the Norfolk Southern Conrail merger allowed Norfolk Southern to move CERA interchange to Marion.

The railroad's main traffic comes from grain and metal products. The CERA hauled around 8,000 carloads in 2008.

British Air Forces in France (BAFF) was a Royal Air Force (RAF) Command set up on 15 January 1940 under the command of Air Marshal Arthur Barratt, to provide unified command of the RAF in France. The Royal Air Force Component of the British Expeditionary Force (Air Component, Air Vice-Marshal Charles Blount) for air support of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and the Advanced Air Striking Force (AASF, Air Vice-Marshal Patrick Playfair) for independent Bomber Command operations from French airfields. Barratt was charged with giving "full assurance" to the BEF of air support and to provide the BEF with

...such bomber squadrons as the latter may, in consultation with him, consider necessary from time to time.

Since the British held only a small part of the Western Front, Barratt must also operate in the context of the immediate needs of the Allies. In France the new arrangement worked well but the War Office and the Air Ministry never agreed on what support should be given to the Field Force of the BEF.

The AASF consisted of RAF light bomber squadrons, based around Rheims in France to be within range of the Ruhr, should the political decision be taken to begin strategic bombing. No decision had been taken before Fall Gelb (Case Yellow), the German offensive in the west, began on 10 May 1940. The AASF bomber force was used instead against the German Army and its lines of communication. BAFF could also request RAF Bomber Command to provide support from medium bombers based in Britain. The headquarters of BAFF were at Chauny next to those of François d'Astier de La Vigerie, the French air commander, to maximise co-operation between the BAFF and the Armée de l'Air.
