The Federal University of Maranhão (Portuguese: Universidade Federal do Maranhão, UFMA) is a federal university in the northeastern state of Maranhão, Brazil.

The Federal University of Minas Gerais (Portuguese: Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, UFMG) is a federal research university located in the state of Minas Gerais. Its main and biggest campus is located at the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It is one of Brazil's five largest and best universities, being the largest federal university. The university also has campi at Tiradentes and Montes Claros. Most courses, however, are taught at the main campus, located in the Pampulha district of Belo Horizonte. It receives the second highest amount of federal funds and resources among all federal universities, and registered over 1060 national and international patents in 2016 the biggest amount among other Brazilian higher education institutions. In 2014, according to Scopus, UFMG published over three thousand articles in influential international newspapers and magazines.

The undergraduate students are admitted through the national annual exams called Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (National High School Exam). UFMG is the fifth best university in Latin America, according to the 2021 Times Higher Education ranking, and the 3rd best university in Brazil. UFMG's communication, psychology and management degrees, among others, were also elected as the best in the country and almost all undergraduate courses offered by the institution rank in the top 5 when compared to their counterparts in other Brazilian universities. The Federal University of Mato Grosso (Portuguese: Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso, UFMT) is a public university in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Responsible for serving the entire state, its main campus is in the capital city of Cuiabá. Smaller campuses are located in Barra do Garças, Pontal do Araguaia, Sinop, and Várzea Grande, while the former campus at Rondonópolis is now the Federal University of Rondonópolis, split off in 2018.

The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, more commonly known by its acronym RSTMH, was founded in 1907 by Sir James Cantlie and George Carmichael Low. Sir Patrick Manson, the Society's first President (1907–1909), was recognised as "the father of tropical medicine" by his biographer. Marshall University – South Charleston Campus is a non-residential branch campus of Marshall University located in South Charleston, West Virginia, which is primarily focused on extension graduate programs.

The institution traces its roots to extension graduate programs offered by both Marshall University and West Virginia University throughout West Virginia, and particularly in the metropolitan Charleston, West Virginia area prior to 1969.

In that year, the state reorganized its extension graduate system. WVU was limited to, except in a few subjects, offering extension programs in the northern part of the state, MU was limited to the four counties surrounding the main campus in Huntington, and a graduate only College of Graduate Studies (sometimes incorrectly called "The West Virginia College of Graduate Studies") was founded. The college had no campus of its own, and almost no faculty. It had some offices at West Virginia State College and offered classes on that campus and at locations throughout the rest of southern West Virginia, drawing its faculty from those of West Virginia State College, Concord College, Bluefield State College, Glenville State College and other institutions. The college also utilized adjunct faculty drawn from industry in the Kanawha Valley.

The name, which lacked a geographic identifier, as well as the "impact" of a well-known college, was later briefly changed first to The University of West Virginia College of Graduate Studies and then to the West Virginia Graduate College.

In 1992 the school got a campus of its own, moving to land donated by the Union Carbide Corporation near its research facility. The next year, the state again reorganized its graduate education system, merging the West Virginia Graduate College and the on-campus graduate programs of Marshall University under the name Marshall University Graduate College.

A waveguide is a structure that guides waves, such as electromagnetic waves or sound, with minimal loss of energy by restricting the transmission of energy to one direction. Without the physical constraint of a waveguide, wave intensities decrease according to the inverse square law as they expand into three dimensional space.
