NIA: National Investigation Agency

The full form of NIA is “National Investigation Agency”. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is a central agency established by the Indian Government to combat terror in India. The main objective of creating NIA was to have a specialized agency to investigate various incidents of terrorist attacks and IED explosions in various parts of the country. The NIA agency is empowered to deal with terror-related crimes in the states without special permission from the states. It acts as the central counter-terrorism law enforcement agency. The agency came into existence with the enactment of the National Investigation Agency Bill 2008, an Act passed by the Parliament of India on 31 December 2008. As on December 2021 Mr.Kuldeep Singh, IPS is the Director-General of National Investigation Agency (NIA).

SSF: Special Security Force

The full form of SSF is Special Security Force. It is a Bangladeshi law enforcement agency that provides protection to government officials and foreign dignitaries. SSF was formed on 15 June, 1986 and its headquarters is located at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.. The idea of establishing a security force in Bangladesh for physical protection of VIPs was first mooted by the then-President Hussain Muhammad Ershad. The current (As of 2021) Director General of SSF is Major General MD Mujibur Rahman.

The mission of the Special Security Force (SSF) is to provide security to the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and any person designated as a Very Important Person (VIP) by the Government of Bangladesh. The SSF, in collaboration with the civil administration and security and intelligence organizations, takes necessary measures to prevent future threats and protect VIPs from active threats. The SSF is also responsible for the security of the VIP’s offices and residences. Members of the SSF are referred to as Agents.

ISI: Inter-Services Intelligence

The full form of ISI is Inter-Services Intelligence. It is the major intelligence agency of Pakistan Govt. Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is responsible for gathering, processing, and analyzing information relevant for national security from around the world. Its headquarter is in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.The current (As of 2021) Director-General or head of ISI is Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed. The ISI Director-General reports directly to both the Prime Minister and the Army Chief.

ISI gained global recognition and fame in the 1980s, when it supported the Afghan mujahideen against the Soviet Union during the Soviet–Afghan War in the erstwhile Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. During the war, the ISI worked in close coordination with the United States’ CIA and the United Kingdom’s SIS. After independence, two intelligence agencies were created in Pakistan: IB (Intelligence Bureau) and MI (Military Intelligence). But after the poor performance of these two agencies, ISI was established in 1948 to gather intelligence and share intelligence among the armed forces (Army, Navy and Air Force).

RAW Full Form

The full form of RAW is “Research and Analysis Wing“. The Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) is the foreign intelligence agency of India. It was established in 1968 under the guidance of Rameshwar Nath Kaofollowing the intelligence failures of the Sino-Indian War. RAW is headquartered in New Delhi. It is the most powerful agency of India which mainly keeps a close watch on the activities of neighbors and other countries fighting terrorism. It is also involved in the security of India’s nuclear programs.

NSG: National Security Guard

The National Security Guard (NSG) is a counter-terrorism unit under the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). It was founded on 22 September 1986 under the National Security Guard Act 1986, to protect the states against internal disturbances and to deal with terrorist activities after Operation Blue Star and the assassination of Indira Gandhi. The mission of NSG is “Train, equip and keep in readiness a special force capable of swiftly and effectively combating terrorism to live up to its motto Sarvatra Sarvottam Suraksha“. Mr.M.A. Ganapathy is the current (As of 2021) Director General of NSG and its headquarters is located in Mehram Nagar, Palam, New Delhi.

NSG personnel are often referred to in the media as Black Cats because of the black dress and black cat insignia on their uniforms. The National Security Guard (NSG) was established in 1984 as a federal contingency deployment force to deal with all aspects of terrorism in the country. As a specialized counter-terrorism force, it is intended to be used “only in exceptional situations” and is not meant to handle “actions of state police forces or other para military forces”. NSG soldiers played crucial role in 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks and they are featured in the 2019 thriller film Hotel Mumbai, which is based on the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

CBI: Central Bureau of Investigation

The full form of CBI is Central Bureau of Investigation. It is the premier investigating agency of India. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was originally established in the year 1941 under the name of Special Police Establishment (SPE) and renamed in 1963 by Home Ministry of India. The head of the CBI is usually a senior IPS officer. Other officers of the CBI, which include Superintendent of Police (SP), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Sub-Inspector (SI) and Constables. CBI works under the Prime Minister of India. Its motto is “Industry, Impartiality and Integrity”. Mr. D. P. Kohli was the first Director and Subodh Kumar Jaiswal is the current (As of 2021) Director of CBI. The headquarters of CBI is located at CGO Complex, near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.

SPG: Special Protection Group

The full form of SPG is “Special Protection Group“. The Special Protection Group (SPG) is an Indian special force for providing proximate security to the Prime Minister of India and members of their immediate families wherever in the world they are. It was formed in 1988 by an act of the Parliament of India. The SPG came into being on 8 April 1985 when S. Subramaniam, then Joint Director (VIP Security) in the Intelligence Bureau assumed office. Creation of the SPG required an elaborate exercise in order to clearly delineate responsibility of various agencies concerned with the security of the Prime Minister. The provisions contained in the Blue Book, which lays down security guidelines for the protection of the Prime Minister, had to be harmoniously blended with this new concept of proximate security.

SPG personnel provide a special security cover to the Prime Minister for 24 hours, and provide for their defense, security and maintenance of their homes, aircraft and vehicles. SPG is one of the most professional and sophisticated security in the India. SPG personnel are provided with special and professional tests, equipment and nutrients for safety, defense, maintenance and kept in a firm discipline, so that they are fully capable of providing security to the Prime Minister. On 27 November 2019, SPG amendment bill 2019 was passed by Lower House of Indian Parliament, which reduced SPG cover only to the PM and his immediate kin, and ex-PM and his family for 5 years. The ACT seeks to bring down the cost of maintaining the SPG security to the exchequer.
